Meta introduces Muse Charm, a pocket device for its AI agent

Meta introduced Muse Charm at Meta Connect on September 23, describing it as a pocket-sized device for talking to and interacting with its Muse personal AI agent. The announcement appeared in Meta’s official Connect roundup. Meta says Charm brings Muse, powered by a next-generation real-time voice model, into a small device users can carry in a pocket. The company said it would share more details later this year.

That description is deliberately limited. Meta has not yet published a price, a firm availability date, or a detailed specification for the Charm in its newsroom post. It has also not explained whether the device can work independently of a phone or how it connects to Muse. The announcement presents Charm as a new way to access the agent, rather than a replacement for the Muse app.

Muse itself launched earlier in September. Meta describes it as an agent that can handle tasks across connected apps and services, and says people can interact with it through the Muse app, WhatsApp and the web. At Connect, the company also outlined a real-time voice mode, work that can continue while a person is speaking, and plans to bring Muse to its AI glasses. The Charm extends this push to a dedicated handheld form.

The product matters as a test of whether an AI agent needs its own hardware. A phone already offers a screen, microphone and network connection, while glasses can provide hands-free access. A pocket device could make talking to an agent feel more immediate or personal, but that is an expectation to test, not a proven advantage. Its usefulness will depend on how quickly it responds, how well it handles interruptions and whether carrying another gadget feels worthwhile.

For users, the key questions are practical: what Charm can do that the Muse app cannot, what it costs, when it will ship and what information its sensors collect. Meta’s announcement does not answer those questions yet. The company’s earlier Muse launch says users choose which services to connect and must approve sensitive actions such as purchases or sending email. Those controls matter even more as an agent becomes available through another physical interface.
