OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI in ChatGPT
OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI in ChatGPT on October 7, 2026. The change is not only a model refresh. OpenAI says ChatGPT can now decide whether a question is best answered with ordinary text, a visual explanation, or an interactive interface built inside the conversation. The rollout starts globally for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users in the Chat tab; Free and Go users are scheduled to receive it on October 8. Enterprise access still depends on admin settings.
With Intelligent UI, an answer can combine text with graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts, maps, checklists and task-specific tools. OpenAI’s examples include an interactive breakdown of a seven-speed bicycle, a cooking plan that adjusts quantities, a savings calculator, a bill splitter and a small game. These are generated experiences in the chat, not automatically published standalone apps. The system can still return plain text when that is more useful.
OpenAI says the feature uses a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that processes the interface as the model generates it. That lets the UI appear progressively instead of waiting for the complete response. GPT-6 can also start answering while it continues thinking or using tools. OpenAI reports that GPT-6 Instant starts web-search answers 44 percent sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant, but that is an internal company evaluation rather than an independent benchmark.
The change matters because it moves a mainstream AI assistant closer to an on-demand software surface. A user may be able to explore a concept, adjust assumptions or complete a small calculation without switching to a separate app. For makers, it raises questions about reusable components, accessibility, accuracy and the boundary between generated interfaces and conventional software. The biggest practical limitation is reliability: an attractive chart or interactive explanation can still contain wrong facts or misleading assumptions. Users should check important calculations and decisions.
The launch also has a clear scope. GPT-6 Sol powers the paid Chat experience and GPT-6 Luna the Free and Go rollout; OpenAI says models in Work and Codex do not change in this release. The announcement therefore describes a new ChatGPT interaction layer and staged access, not a claim that every OpenAI product has switched to GPT-6.
